How Random works
- You tap the button. Random looks for a group of people near you, or starts one.
- Your group comes together. It aims for five people, and the outing can be confirmed from three.
- The bar is revealed. Once the group is confirmed, a bar near you is drawn at random. A group chat helps you find each other there.
No profile to polish, no ratings, no selection: nobody picks who joins the group. Come as you are, and leave the rest to chance.
Why a small group rather than one-on-one
Meeting a single person from an app often feels like a job interview with a drink in hand. With five people, the pressure drops: the conversation moves around, silences are shared, and nobody is "the date".
A group also has a very practical upside: you meet several people in one evening. Some will stay friendly faces, others may become friends. Weak ties matter too: they are often the ones that open up new circles.
What sets Random apart from other friendship apps
- No swiping, no matching: groups form by proximity, not by selection.
- You meet in real life, soon: the point is not to chat for weeks before meeting.
- A public place: you meet in a bar, not at someone's home.
- Your location stays private: it is used to look for a group near you and is never shown to other participants.
- No need to drink alcohol: a drink can be a juice or a soda.
Who is it for?
For you if you have just moved to a new city, if your friends have moved away or changed their rhythm, if you feel like going out tonight with nobody to call, or simply if you like leaving a little room for chance. It is also a reassuring format if you are shy: in a group, you can listen before you talk.
And if you are looking for love, Random is not a dating app. People come to get to know each other, with no strings attached.
How much does it cost?
Random is free for now, and no bank card is required. Drinks are paid directly at the bar, as on any night out.
What Random cannot promise
Random is designed for every city, but an outing depends on people actually signed up near you and an available venue. If a group cannot form around you, the app tells you: it does not send you across town. You can then plan an outing for another time.
Frequently asked questions
Is it a dating app?
No. Random is for meeting new people in a small group, over a drink. Nobody selects or rates your profile.
Can I come on my own?
That is the whole idea: you join a small group of people who also chose to meet someone new.
How is the bar chosen?
Once the group is confirmed, a bar near the group is drawn at random. The group chat then helps you find each other.
Does it work in my city?
Random is designed for every city. A meetup depends on people actually nearby and an available venue; if a group cannot form, the app tells you.
Is it free?
Random is free for now, with no bank card required. Drinks are paid at the bar.
